      Styles from long ago have an ambience lacking in today's styles. Subtully expressive, suggestive of curves but not too sexy (usually). Let our vintage dress sewing patterns transport you back to the time of World War II and Great Depression of my parents younger years, WW1 and the flapper days of my grandparents, or even the Spanish American War of my great-grandparents. Did you know the hem lengths of dresses were shorter during WWII because FDR asked ladies to save fabric? And promised chicken in every pot! Many old patterns have no date, but you can get a clue from the length of the skirt. Hemlines were shorter in the gay 1920s, while they nearly reached the ankle in the 1930s. They barely covered the knee in the 1940s. The 1950s brought longer hemlines as we celebrated the prosperity of post-war, the 1960s brought the mini skirt, and in the attitude of the 1970s - anything goes!

Description: Unprinted pattern from the 1920s. Slip-on dress, closed on left shoulder. A stay, stitched underneath dress below waistline holds the dress closely to the figure, forming blouse effect. Shirred drapery at left side front. Dart-fitted sleeves.

Condition: Complete. Envelope front is in good condition. The back is brittle and has tears and a chunk missing. Instructions are readable.

Description: 1954 original vintage pattern, printed. The bodice of this neatly tailored one-piece dress features a pointed collar and shaped set in sleeves. The skirt, fitted with soft pleats at front waistline, has a pleat at the lower edge of center back. A tab and button fasten the neck of view 1. Sleeves are 3/4 length and armholes are accented with top stitching. View 2 sleeves are short and bodice is open at the neck. Saddle stitching details neck opening, collar and armholes.

Condition: Uncut. Envelope flap is missing, top edge is ragged, discoloration around edges.

A has band trims on front and neck edges.

Horizontal tucks gracefully circle the hips accentuating the softness created by the gathered skirt. Dress sports perky collar. Cuffs effect sleeves.

Condition: The pattern, instruction sheet, and envelope are in excellent condition. The envelope is joined on all three edges, with very few minor splits. The envelope flap is complete and well connected. There is no writing and no stamps on the front of the envelope. The number 94 is stamped in red on the back.

Description: 1950 printed pattern. One-piece dress has gathers at forward shoulder seams and waistline release fullness in bodice of the front- buttoned dress. Pointed yoke and deep inverted pleat at bodice back. Buttoned flap-trimmed pockets trim bodice and skirt which has a deep inverted pleat in back. Style 1 has long sleeves finished with pointed wristbands. Style 2 has short sleeves which are open at the sides and have a button closing.

Condition: A few pieces are cut, complete. Envelope has no flap, has store stamps, no writing, a few stains, edge splits and tears.

Lace trims the two patch pockets and the ruffles on the bodice. Side front and back of bodice and sleeves are omitted in Style III. Two patch pockets and ruffles on bodice are trimmed with rick-rack.
